Our International Foundation Programme – Human and Social Sciences enables you to understand a range of areas. You will develop your communication skills whilst taking specific modules relating to your further degree study.

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is a level 3 foundation year that is an equivalent qualification to A levels. During your programme you will develop subject-specific knowledge with a strong focus on improving your academic English language skills in preparation for studying at university.

During the three terms encapsulating the IFP, you’ll gain additional skills in your chosen study route and the necessary English language skills to progress to year one of your chosen university degree course.

This module introduces theories of intercultural communication including the role played by verbal and non-verbal communication, stereotyping and the role of the media. You will consider barriers and develop strategies to ensure effective communication.

This module considers the origins and development of the discipline of sociology. It investigates a range of approaches, theories and interpretations that seek to explain how society operates, and to understand how these explanations inform the broader social sciences and theories of culture and communication.

This module will introduce politics in terms of key ideas, historical perspectives, and structures of government, drawing on Britain as a focus. It will also investigate how politics informs and is influenced by international considerations and relations.

This module will develop your knowledge of how to use mathematical techniques to solve numerical problems. You will also apply mathematical knowledge to the collation, evaluation and analysis of quantitative data including its presentation in the form of graphs and spreadsheets.

This module introduces the historical development of Psychology drawing on a range of theories and approaches, relevant studies and experiments focussing on cognitive, social and developmental psychology.

This module covers fundamental principles and concepts in human biology. The content will be arranged to focus on knowledge and understanding of anatomy; physiological, cardiovascular and circulatory systems; and theories relating to nutrition and disease.

This module concerns biopsychology and abnormal behaviour. You will focus on behavioural, cognitive and psychodynamic approaches, and the ethical considerations related to these research methods.
