This new course is stimulated by a time of global and local challenges for social work and social services. Learning alongside students worldwide, you will have the opportunity for academic exploration of practice, policy, research and leadership in social work and social services.

Underpinned by the Global Definition of Social Work, this academic course will enable you to develop a critical understanding of social work practice, policy, research and leadership.
The course considers and connects global and local social concerns, developments and research. It is intended for you if you have had experience working within social services. This includes work with children and families, adults and communities in government and non-government sectors, including voluntary work.
Successful completion of the course confers a Master’s degree. The course is designed to support employability and further professional development for those who wish to work in Scotland or continue to do so, as well as those who may wish to work overseas within the social services workforce.
This one-year course does not contain integrated practice learning opportunities or internships and completion of the course does not confer a professional qualification.
This course will provide you with a high level of knowledge to bring to your chosen career in social work or a related field. It is also an excellent stepping stone for taking the next step in your career, whether that involves applying for promotion or undertaking a doctorate.
The scope for applying advanced social work skills is vast - social workers are employed in a wide variety of settings, beyond what might traditionally be considered 'social work.'
The Pre Masters Program will prepare you for the UK, EU or US study system, giving you the confidence and skills that you’ll need to go further in your studies. Depending on your academic qualification and English language level and chosen programme, you can study the IIM over one or two terms.
