Key Information

The International Year Two (IY2) is equivalent to second-year study of a three-year undergraduate degree. This three-term programme provides an intensive combination of more advanced subject-specific content with the opportunity to develop language and academic study skills, while studying business management modules.

Upon successful completion of the IY2, you will continue to the final year of BSc (Hons) Business and Management at the University of Bradford.

Please note: Students progressing from the International Year Two will not be eligible for ACCA exam exemptions, as the module combination in this pathway does not include the accounting modules required for exemption. Alongside study subject-specific modules based on your chosen field of study, you will study core modules that will develop your English Language abilities in preparation for university-level study.

Modules

This module supports international students in developing advanced academic English and study skills required for success in final-year undergraduate study. Students refine their ability to read complex texts, write extended assignments, give confident presentations and engage critically with academic sources. The module emphasises independent learning, research, and effective communication in academic and professional contexts. Through structured tasks and formative feedback, students gain the linguistic competence and study strategies needed to meet Level 6 expectations and future employability goals.

This module explores the principles of entrepreneurship and the core skills required for employability in a global business environment. Students examine the entrepreneurial mindset, opportunity identification, and the process of developing business ideas in both new ventures and existing organisations. Alongside this, they reflect on their personal strengths, career aspirations and development goals, and practise key communication skills relevant to future employment. The module encourages creativity, collaboration and critical reflection, providing a foundation for success in final-year study and graduate-level careers.

This module provides an introduction to key principles of business law and ethical practice in both national and international contexts. Students examine the legal environment in which businesses operate, including contract law, company law and the regulation of employment and commerce. Alongside this, the module explores frameworks for ethical decision-making and considers the impact of globalisation, corporate responsibility and sustainability. Through case studies and discussion, students build the legal awareness and moral reasoning needed for effective and responsible business practice.

This module introduces students to the strategic and operational roles of Human Resource Management (HRM) in contemporary organisations. Key areas of focus include recruitment and selection, performance management, reward systems and ethical practices. Students explore how HRM contributes to organisational success and employee development in both national and international contexts. The module encourages critical thinking about people management challenges and prepares students for advanced study in business-related disciplines.

This module explores the development and execution of marketing strategies in modern business environments, with a focus on digital marketing, customer engagement and value creation. Students examine how organisations identify market opportunities, position their brand, and use strategic and tactical tools to build competitive advantage. Emphasis is placed on analysing marketing data, understanding consumer behaviour and adapting strategies for different audiences and cultural contexts. The module combines theory with practical application, enabling students to create and justify a marketing campaign as part of a team while developing their individual communication and analytical skills.

This module develops students’ ability to analyse business data, identify trends and apply forecasting techniques to inform strategic decisions. Topics include time series analysis, regression modelling, demand forecasting and interpreting data outputs using digital tools such as Excel. Students learn how to handle uncertainty, assess the reliability of forecasts and communicate their findings to non-specialist audiences. The module prepares students to use evidence-based methods to support planning and performance in a range of business contexts, and to engage critically with data-led decision-making in their final-year studies and beyond.

This module explores how organisations develop, evaluate and implement strategies in response to dynamic internal and external environments. Students learn how to apply strategic management frameworks to analyse industries, assess competitive advantage and make informed strategic choices. The module emphasises critical thinking and decision-making, encouraging students to consider issues such as sustainability, globalisation and corporate responsibility. Through real-world case studies and group tasks, students build the analytical and communication skills required for final-year study and future careers in business leadership.
