The International Year One (IY1) is the first of a three-year undergraduate programme taught at the University of Greenwich International College (UGIC).

The IIY1 programme provides an intensive combination of first year university subject modules with extra study and English language skills.

Your first year is taught at UGIC and once successfully completed, you will continue studying the remaining stages of your degree directly with the University of Greenwich. During the IY1 you will:

  • Study at the University campus
  • Have full access to the university amenities and student benefits

How does this course work?

Our pathway courses will prepare you with subject-specific knowledge and academic English language skills. Alongside this, our dedicated and friendly college teams will ensure that you have the help you need to adjust to life as an international student abroad.

During your pathway course, you will take a combination of core and subject modules specific to your chosen degree. It’s a great way to get familiar with your subject area while learning core university study skills such as academic writing and referencing. There is still a lot of studying involved, but all our courses are designed to prepare you in the best possible way.

With experienced tutors and small class sizes, you will have the space to develop your confidence while strengthening your university-level study skills. Once you’ve completed, you will continue onto the next stage of your chosen degree course at university.

Throughout your time with us, we will support you to realise your true potential.

Curriculum

As well as modules unique to your specific pathway, you will also study several modules that are common to all pathways.

Common modules

This module aims to help you achieve the equivalent of IELTS 6.0 (with no skill below 5.5) for continuation to further study at University of Greenwich. Through this course, you will be made aware of the critical importance of English competence in the context of your ongoing academic studies.

This course aims to develop and strengthen your understanding of business and management and the application of business principles in a corporate environment.

This course aims to develop and strengthen your understanding of engineering and apply mechanical, electronic and mathematical principles in business.
