From the Director's desk

Although a lot of hard work lies ahead, the teachers and student support team at DMUIC will help you enjoy every minute of your studies. The university is big enough to offer excellent teaching facilities, student support structures, and opportunities to join varied sporting and social events, but the college is small enough for us to get to know each student. Along with DMU, we have a proven track record in helping students achieve their goals and ambitions – and we are sure our new students in 2023/24 will deliver even more! I look forward to working with you, getting to know you, and sharing in all your successes.

I look forward to working with you, getting to know you, and sharing in all your successes.

Every best wish!

What is like to study and live in Leicester?

The DMU campus is a safe and peaceful place to study with everything in easy reach, while only minutes away from the exciting buzz of the city centre. At the heart of the campus is the award-winning Vijay Patel Building, home to art and design subjects. The regeneration of the Great Hall of Leicester Castle brought new life and purpose to the former court of law in this Grade I listed building as a teaching space for students in the Faculty of Business and Law.

The central Kimberlin Library offers a space where you can work, study and access a vast range of print materials, with computer stations, laptops, plasma screens and assistive technology. The campus also has several sustainable design features, from solar panels to greener travel initiatives.

Your Route to De Montfort University

Leicester-based DMU brings the highest standards in education to an inclusive, international curriculum with over 170 accredited courses.

What student support does DMU offer?

De Montfort University (DMU) has a dedicated student support team to help deal with any issues you may have before, during and after your studies. Whether it’s finding accommodation and settling in, to arranging academic support – the support team can help point you in the right direction.

DMU has dedicated resources to provide extra academic support to students. Areas we provide help with include:

  • Essay writing (style, structure and referencing)
  • General written English (grammar, punctuation)
  • Research (skills and sources)
  • Time management
  • Verbal presentations
  • Revision and exams

All DMU undergraduate and postgraduate students have a designated personal tutor throughout their programme. From the moment they join the university, students are encouraged to build a relationship with their Personal Tutor who, along with specialist services, as appropriate (e.g. The Student Gateway, Library and Learning Services, Student Advice Centres) will support and guide students in their journey to fulfil their academic potential and to achieve their academic and personal development goals.

Our Student Finance team is here to provide students with advice on all aspects of money matters, including tuition fees, financial help and funding studies.

Located within Student Gateway, the Student Finance and Welfare Counter provides information and guidance on a range of student funding issues. The advice given is confidential and impartial. The team is responsible for:

  • Liaising with Student Finance England/Student Loans Company (and other student funding bodies, but not the NHS)
  • Confirming registration to release students maintenance payments
  • Confirming attendance to trigger tuition fee loan payments and sending ‘Change of Circumstance’ notifications.

The team also offer a variety of appointments to suit student needs that can be booked at their convenience.

The Disability Advice and Support (DSA) team are committed to providing leading support to enable students to achieve their full potential. We know that each person’s disability can affect them in different ways, so the support we offer is flexible and tailored to each individual. We aim to ensure that all our students have the opportunity to fully participate in their chosen course and university experience. We encourage students and applicants to inform us about a disability or medical condition as early as possible, so that relevant support can be arranged for their studies. This can include liaising with academics, the exams office and other key teams to ensure that all support is in place.

The Wellbeing team offers counselling to give students the opportunity to talk in confidence with someone who is impartial and separate from work, social and family life. The team also offers a fantastic range of #HealthyDMU masterclasses, including mindfulness and many more. These masterclasses are an opportunity to develop life skills such as managing pressure effectively and becoming more confident.

The Mental Health Inclusion team offer support around practical, day to day solutions to various issues students may have. Coming to university is for the majority of students a fantastic experience. It’s a chance to meet new people, have lots of new opportunities, achieve academic goals and work towards a career. We want to try and ensure that all students have a positive experience at DMU, so the Mental Health Inclusion team are an excellent resource for students to utilise.

All students and staff have the right to feel respected, safe and supported. DMU and DSU are committed to providing and promoting an environment which is free from harassment and discrimination. Unwanted sexual comments, advances or assaults have no place at DMU or anywhere else. We have a team of trained professionals who are here to listen and ensure students receive the very best support and help.

Starting university is an exciting time, with lots of opportunities to take advantage of – some students can find this quiet daunting. The Transitions team can help students cope better with the challenges of academic study, independent living and thriving in a new environment.

DMU Works is our exciting careers programme to help students become work-ready by providing opportunities that will make them professional, adaptable and business-aware, equipping them to succeed in a competitive world and make choices about the future they want. Opportunities offered include:

As DMUIC is situated in England’s most vibrant and multicultural city, I had the opportunity to make friends from different countries. The most amazing thing was that the DMUIC staff including all teachers and the office persons were very motivational and welcoming. They provide the best routes for study to every individual.”

Syed Asim Hussain Pakistan, De Montfort University International College (DMUIC)

I’ve enjoyed studying at DMUIC, the tutors are excellent and have helped me settle into life as a university student. They are also really supportive and have helped myself and other students with other issues outside of the classroom such as accommodation.

Nafisa Bangladesh, De Montfort University International College (DMUIC)

I have successfully progressed onto my degree course at the University of Bradford because of UBIC's reliable policies and teaching programme. To the new students, those who just started their foundation at Bradford International College, I must say you are going to pass the class, the only thing required is your attention and leave the rest on UBIC's staff because they are the one that are going to lead you to a brilliant future as it is a pathway to success.

Shoaib Khan Pakistan, University of Bradford International College (UBIC)

I have a lot of international friends here at BUIC, and I’ve learnt so much from them. There is always a lot to do together both on and off-campus.

Sagar Nepal, Bangor University International College (BUIC)

I would recommend UGIC because it is based on the main University of Greenwich campus, a cosmopolitan university. At UGIC, there are students from all around the world, and I've made a lot of friends from exciting places."

Gozel Turkmenistan, University of Greenwich International College (UGIC)

I think one of the main reasons the IIM (pre-masters) has been so helpful is because the staff are so supportive and are always able to help me. Whether it is understanding a module or finding out how to sort accommodation, they will help you with everything. I’ve enjoyed studying at Bangor, the people are friendly, and the environment is also really peaceful and safe. It’s given me the best opportunity to succeed in my studies here in the UK.

Tong Tong China, Bangor University International College (BUIC)
