The online asynchronous orientation, hosted by UofL International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), is mandatory for all new international students. It will prepare you for your stay while at the University of Louisville and cover important information regarding your stay in the U.S. and the UofL campus. You will be receiving an email from the ISSS office with how to access the online orientation. Please check your email for this information. Please complete the online orientation prior to your arrival.

UofL ISSS will provide additional details via your UofL email on how to access the pre-arrival orientation.
In order to avoid delays in getting your visa, it is very important to apply for your F-1 student visa at your nearest US embassy or consulate as soon as you have received your Admission Letter and I-20. You can locate a nearby embassy at this link: https://www.usa.gov/find-embassy. Any delays in receiving your visa will impact your ability to register for your classes and may delay your start term.
Our team can support you through this process. You can reach out by using this form: Admissions Contact Form
We will request updates on your visa application status. We’d like to know when you applied, when your interview is scheduled and, most importantly, if you were successful! Once you’ve received your visa, please email your campus team at: isss@louisville.edu and enavarrete@oxfordinternational.com.
If you have any questions about the US visa application, we’d encourage you to talk to a professional immigration expert. Oxford International has partnered with the Argo Visa Forge Dynamic. The company provides visa applicants with a one-to-one analysis of their case and then guides them with personalized visa interview strategies. If you need help preparing your visa interview, you can book a consultation with an Argo Visa Expert today.
You must book your accommodation before your arrival to the US. First- and second-year undergraduate students are required to live on-campus to enhance academic performance; maximize access to social, academic, and psychological support; and develop a greater sense of safety and belonging. Students must move into on-campus accommodation on their assigned move-in date.
Graduate students are not required to comply with the First-Year Live-On and Second-Year Residential Requirement Policies. UofL encourages graduate students to choose from on-campus housing and off-campus affiliated housing, but they are also welcome to explore other off-campus options.
How to apply for on-campus housing:
Once you have obtained and set up your student ID, account, and password, you can start the accommodation booking process with on-campus housing via this link. UofL Housing provides a series of “how-to” videos to assist with the housing application, room assignments, maintenance, and appeals and exemptions.
On-campus housing has many advantages including:
We will request updates on your accommodation arrangements so we can promptly assist you.
Immediately after you’ve received your visa, book your flight. When booking your flight, please make sure you schedule to arrive on or before the Arrival / Move-in Date, so you have enough time to check-in to your accommodation and join your classes on time.
We will request information about your travel details, so please email us at isss@louisville.edu and enavarrete@oxfordinternational.com once you’ve booked your flight.
UofL International Student and Scholar Services operates a network of volunteers for airport pickups through The Organization Assisting and Service International Students. To request airport pickup, students must complete the registration form, which opens a few weeks before the semester begins.
Your course registration will be conducted online through UofL ULink. Please refer to any instructions provided via email or during the pre-arrival webinar to log in and complete the registration process.
STAGE 1 – Student Systems Access
This step is important for creating your Student ID card, setting up your university email address and enabling your other IT services (such as email, authenticator, etc.).
Once you’ve received your admission, you will be sent an email from The University of Louisville to complete your student access set-up with your username, and separate email with your password.
Please refer to the instructions provided with your admission pack to set up your university account. If you have not received this email to your personal account, please contact enavarrete@oxfordinternational.com provide us with your correct personal email address. Please remember that activating your university account is not a class registration.
STAGE 2 – Registration
All incoming students need to meet with their advisor before they can be marked ‘active’ and register for classes. Students unable to attend orientation should have a virtual meeting with their advisor before registering.
Complete Pre-Registration Questions
Students must first access ‘Ulink’ and answer the pre-registration questions:
a. Financial Settlement Agreement
b. Authorization for email communication
c. Local address required
d. General questions confirming major, etc.
Register for classes
There are several options available when beginning the registration process, depending on when a student registers and the path desired via http://ulink.louisville.edu. Additional instructions and a step-by-step guide to registration can be viewed at the following link.
STAGE 3 – Arrival Check-In
Once you have arrived, you will need to come to the campus to attend the mandatory arrival orientation hosted by International Student and Scholar Services.
As soon as you arrive at UofL, you must submit the following documents: Visa, I-94, and current local address. You may submit these documents to the ISSS office using your Terra Dotta portal, by email, or in person.
You must check-in on arrival. If you don’t, you will be classed as non-arrival, reported to SEVIS, and dropped from your classes. If you are an undergraduate student and you have not registered for courses, contact the appropriate advising center for your major (http://louisville.edu/advising/). Graduate students should visit or contact their academic department and be aware of any other orientations or meetings they may need to attend.
We strongly advise that you pay your remaining tuition from your home country as soon as you receive your visa and before you travel to the US. Settling all due payments prior to arrival will allow you to focus on your studies and to enjoy your student life. Without paying your tuition fees, you may not receive your schedule and may have restrictions applied to your university facilities. You will receive instructions on how to pay your tuition from the University of Louisville after you receive your I-20.
We want you to have the best possible student experience: an arrival that answers your questions as well as events and activities that help you settle into your studies and make friends. We strongly advise that you attend the university’s arrival orientations and your courses from day one in order to have the best possible academic outcome. To enjoy the full student experience, you need to arrive at the College no later than the program start date as stated in your offer letter and I-20.
Please notify your department/program and isss@louisville.edu if you will be arriving late. For university housing, students must check in by noon on the first day of classes each semester, or they will be cancelled as a no-show. Students who will not be arriving by the required check-in time must use their Uofl email address to contact housing@louisville.edu with their full name, UofL ID, and estimated date and time of arrival.
As the program start date approaches, we will be in regular contact with a lot of useful information which will fully prepare you to have the best start. Please check your personal and university email regularly so you don’t miss out. It is important to update us on any changes to your contact details (phone number and email address) so that we can continue to keep in touch with you and give you the support that you need.
