Subject Specific Modules

This highly applied introductory module is designed to develop in the student an interest, knowledge, and appreciation of current global economic/ political/ social/ cultural issues and the challenges that they pose for management. In looking at the ways in which management responds to these global challenge,s it considers more generally the role of management within businesses and, in particular, the importance of strategic development initiatives and planning.

Students will also become familiar with some of the key features, benefits, and challenges of responsible management and will explore issues such as corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and business ethics.

The module is designed to give a broad and generalised introduction to the role of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and finance function within a business. It considers the wide area of accounting but concentrates on the use of financial data to assist in monitoring a company’s performance and support senior management in its strategic planning rather than its theoretical and technical aspects.

This course aims to introduce students to concepts and theories relevant to understanding the behaviour of people as individuals and in groups within work organisations. It further provides an understanding of organisational design and its impact on the behaviour of individuals and their effectiveness at work. Students consider the management of change within organisations, the impact of technology on job satisfaction, and the motivation of people at work. Students are also introduced to both classic and emerging issues within organisations, such as sustainability and ethical considerations

This module introduces the ideas of statistics, financial mathematics, and the importance of data within a business and organisational context. It aims to provide students with the required quantitative techniques to be able to summarise and present data in a meaningful way and to enhance their understanding of how data is collected, managed and used to support decision-making in business activities.

Appropriate computer software will be used to help students with this module. Students are enabled to apply financial mathematical techniques to solve simple but realistic problems through their study of this module.

The aim of this course is to provide the appropriate foundation in economic theory to enable business students to understand the environment within which business functions. Its focus is on the economic decision-making by individuals and businesses. Students are also taught to consider the impact of government policies and actions on businesses and to look beyond national policies to the influence of wider economic and political groupings of states.

The aims of this course are to provide students with an introduction to marketing and a basic grounding in its theories and concepts, with an overview of marketing practice. This will enable students to understand marketing both as an organisational discipline and in its operational role within a business. I’ve enjoyed studying at DMUIC, the tutors are excellent and have helped me settle into life as a university student. They are also really supportive and have helped myself and other students with other issues outside of the classroom such as accommodation.

I think one of the main reasons the IIM (pre-masters) has been so helpful is because the staff are so supportive and are always able to help me. Whether it is understanding a module or finding out how to sort accommodation, they will help you with everything. I’ve enjoyed studying at Bangor, the people are friendly, and the environment is also really peaceful and safe. It’s given me the best opportunity to succeed in my studies here in the UK.
