Degree Overview

On the BSc (Hons) Marine and Freshwater Biology degree at Edinburgh Napier, you will explore the diversity of aquatic life and the complex ecosystems that support it. You will study how species adapt and interact in oceans, rivers and wetlands, while also investigating the impact of human activity and climate change on these environments.

Your learning combines classroom study with hands-on experience. You will spend time in the lab using modern techniques for analysing water quality, habitats and organisms, and you will take part in fieldwork at coastal and freshwater sites where you can put your knowledge into practice.

As you progress, you will develop the skills to design and carry out your own research projects and to work with organisations involved in wildlife management, conservation and environmental protection. By the time you graduate, you will be ready to build a career in conservation, environmental consultancy, aquatic research or further postgraduate study.
