Using novel materials and digital technologies, students will work to develop their own voice in an increasingly diverse conversation. Our strong studio culture means that students will be able to share ideas in a supportive environment.

Degree Overview

Students will develop pieces of jewellery and wearable objects by gaining a deep understanding of the design process, from visual research to concept development to finished outcomes. Technical skills form the basis of the course, but students will also learn to consider the historical, social, and aesthetic context of their creations through written assignments.

We teach traditional jewellery making techniques as well as technologies such as CAD/CAM, microelectronics for wearables, novel materials and 3D printing.

  • Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design’s facilities include a specialist metal and mixed materials workshop, in-house casting facilities, studio spaces, digital resources in a well-equipped Make Space, a wood workshop for both 2D and 3D making, and a foundry – one of only a handful in UK universities

Your Pathways

The International Year Zero is the first year of the four year undergraduate course. IYZ is designed to help you gain extra skills in your subject area, as well as English Language, before you continue to year one of your chosen University undergraduate degree course.

Following successful completion of the IYZ, you will continue onto Year One of your degree directly with the University of your choice.
