From the Director's desk

At JUIC we understand the needs of international students and thrive in supporting our students throughout their academic journey. Yes, it’s an educational journey and not one student’s journey is the same. We understand that our students need academic support and academic orientation and counselling, which are key elements that make us unique.

“We look forward to your arrival and can’t wait to embark on this journey with you. Education is the key that unlocks opportunities, and we wish to provide you with that key; it’s up to you to unlock those opportunities.”

Hanri Landers, College Director

Courses

As a private, non-profit, English-speaking university offering the highest standards in research and teaching, Jacobs University attracts highly talented and open-minded students from all over the world.

International Foundation Year (IFY)

Through a combination of core modules and subject-specific study, you will develop the skills you need to continue to succeed in university life. The IFY offers you five subjects to choose from, and these subjects provide you with a route into a degree at Jacobs University.

This pathway prepares you with the necessary foundation to pursue a future in business. A career in business can cover a range of fields from management and accounting to marketing and human resource management. You can also gain practical and professional business skills which enhance your employability for the job market.

This pathway gives you a great start to a future career in computer science. You will learn the fundamentals of computer programing, coding, mathematics and technology. Computer science lies at the core of all modern industries and plays a major role. A career in computer science can lead to positions within an IT department or several other professions such as software developer, computer analyst, software engineer and many more.

This pathway is the first stage of your journey to the Industrial Engineering & Management (IEM) degree program at Jacobs University. The IEM program prepares graduates for a career at the intersection of management and engineering. For students who dream of a future leading industrial and trade enterprises, engineering research or education, this program opens the door to a wide range of engaging career paths.

This pathway is your route to a choice of degree programs with the department of Life Sciences & Chemistry at Jacobs University. Each program is designed to equip you with the theory and practical skills for a rewarding career across many different industries. You could explore opportunities in forensic science and environmental science to chemistry and aerospace engineering.

This pathway introduces you to the world of social sciences. You will learn about the society we live in, individual behaviour and what makes us who we are. The field of social sciences offers a variety of career routes from positions in government to counselling and human resource management.

You can also continue to study at master’s level. At Jacobs University about 60% of students enter prestigious graduate schools such as Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown and Sciences Po.

An international campus offers a richness of activities that promise to excite and inspire. Countless student-driven events throughout the year invite you to explore cultural diversity, from the brilliant Deepavali Festival of Lights to the celebratory Lunar New Year, not to mention the Intercontinental Football Tournament or various Country Information Days. Annual events such as the Jacobs Startup Competition, jacobsHack! or the Women in Leadership Conference (WIL) allow students to actively showcase their ideas to university students and companies from around the globe.

Student clubs

Numerous student clubs ranging from arts to sports and community engagement open the door to students’ creativity, develop social and intercultural competencies and strengthen mutual understanding between our campus and the local community. Clubs bring colour and texture to life on campus, with many initiating annual student-run events, such as Art Fest and Environmental Awareness Week.

What student support does Jacobs University offer?

The university makes a wide range of internal Campus Services available to enhance work, study and leisure; whether aimed at faculty, staff or students living off campus or in one of the four residential colleges.

Jacobs Career Services Center offers students, amongst others, an exclusive internship program, individual career counseling, professional skills seminars, Online Job Portal, and employer networking during on-campus recruiting events.

The goal of the Counseling Center (CC) is to actively assist students in resolving existing problems, preventing potential problems, and developing new skills that will enrich their lives and help them cope with challenges.

For students with limited financial resources, Jacobs University offers scholarships and operates a need-based system of financial aid that consists of grants and tuition deferrals (similar to student loans).

International learning and research experience is a vital part of the contemporary academic life and a prerequisite for a successful career. The International Office is glad to offer its services to students and researchers of Jacobs University, exchange and visiting students, and international scholars.

The Office of Student Records at Jacobs University Bremen serves a number of functions.  Our team offers support and advice in your daily life as a student at Jacobs University as well as in Germany.

We offer you first level support and general information as well as document pick-up service. The student service center is located RLH 102 and 103 across from registrar services.

All Jacobs University undergraduates live on campus. Many of them have never been to Germany before and have never had the chance to meet German people or experience the culture. But Jacobs University wants students to be part of the Bremen community. This is why we introduced a Host Family Program to establish personal connections between our students and families in Bremen.

Jacobs University’s library is part of the Information Resource Center (IRC), housed in the spacious Campus Center building. Quiet, group, and individual study areas, equipped with WLAN, power and network connections, offer space for learning in groups or individually.

Supporting students to success

Learn more about what our students have to say when studying across our education network.

I have a lot of international friends here at BUIC, and I’ve learnt so much from them. There is always a lot to do together both on and off-campus.

Sagar Nepal, Bangor University International College (BUIC)

I would recommend UGIC because it is based on the main University of Greenwich campus, a cosmopolitan university. At UGIC, there are students from all around the world, and I've made a lot of friends from exciting places."

Gozel Turkmenistan, University of Greenwich International College (UGIC)

I think one of the main reasons the IIM (pre-masters) has been so helpful is because the staff are so supportive and are always able to help me. Whether it is understanding a module or finding out how to sort accommodation, they will help you with everything. I’ve enjoyed studying at Bangor, the people are friendly, and the environment is also really peaceful and safe. It’s given me the best opportunity to succeed in my studies here in the UK.
