Discover and nurture your personal creative writing path through studying at DMU. Throughout this distinctive course structure, we give you the opportunity to develop and gain skills across fiction, poetry, memoir, the graphic novel, screenwriting, non-fiction, audio and performance writing, concrete poetry and new media.
Through the program you’ll learn how to examine the relationship between word, image, and sound and, by the end of your course, you won’t just be writing – you’ll also be producing your own professional-standard publications. As a final confidence boost, we include final-year voice coaching to help you leave DMU as a self-assured public performer.
You may incur additional costs during your education at the University over and above tuition fees in an academic year such as laptops, Stationary and additional resources.
By studying at DMU you will gain the chance to learn from successful working writers and industry professionals. Recent guest speakers include our visiting professor, poet and novelist Benjamin Zephaniah, novelist Mahsuda Snaith, literary agent Oli Munson and non-fiction author Damian Le Bas.
Our graduates go on to careers in a variety of areas such as writing, teaching, publishing and PR, while others undertake further studies such as the Creative Writing MA at DMU.
The course will equip you with a broad range of transferrable skills for careers within and beyond the creative industries including creative thinking, critical analysis, problem solving, research, independent study, editing, digital writing, publishing and proof reading.
The International Year Zero is the first year of the four year undergraduate course. IYZ is designed to help you gain extra skills in your subject area, as well as English Language, before you continue to year one of your chosen University undergraduate degree course.
Following successful completion of the IYZ, you will continue onto Year One of your degree directly with the University of your choice.
